UK soul artist Imaani is no stranger to the music business having worked on several projects with groups over the past decade or so, while also representing in the Eurovision song contest in 1998. ‘Standing Tall’ see her finally striking out as a solo act and with it comes a very ‘British’ soul record: lots of influences drawn from Brit-funk/soul of the early 80s while remaining current. Standouts on this 11 track debut come in the form of the sultry ‘Let’s Do It Right’, the swaggering opener ‘Ten Thousand’, the drama filled ‘Yeah’, ‘Fall Or Fly’ with its syncopated dance rhythm, the 80s influenced groove of ‘Struggling’ and the hard edged ‘Just For One Day’.
