Magic Peterson Sunshine contains 16 Tracks from the MPS German based jazz label, selected by Gilles Peterson, and is an absolute gem. Pianist Mary Lou Williams’ Modal Jazz version of ‘It Ain’t Necessarily So’ is a standout, but Mark Murphy’s Jazz dance anthem ‘Why And How’ is another killer tune. Also on the modal side check the awesome ‘Big P by The Modern Jazz Group Freiburg and ‘Our Chant’ by Gunter Hampel Quintet. The Singers Unlimited from Chicago bring their wonderful vocal harmonies to ‘Stone Ground Seven’ over an upper mid tempo Jazz groove. Great European Jazz recorded from the mid 60’s to late 70’s.
