Fifth studio album from the Brooklyn Funk Essentials and after a seven year wait the band return with a tight, full on funky excursion with the aptly titled ‘Funk Ain’t Ova’. With no less than five female vocalists sharing duties on an album played entirely by the band the vibe is upbeat and funky throughout. Tracks like ‘Dance Or Die’ have an early 80s boogie feel, ‘Prepare’ is a slick dancer ‘Hook’ brings the tempo down on a groove laden head nodder with some nice horns, the Incognito-esque ‘Gabriel’ will appeal to those into more latin flavours while ‘Unique’ has a spacey feel. Isaac Hayes’ vocals lend themselves to the multi-tempo ‘I’m Gonna Find Me A Woman’ while ‘Set It Off’ has a bubbling afro funk feel in places. Good set.
