22-track double CD retrospective of House master Frankie Knuckles’ work with the main focus on his classic 80s and 90s output. Knuckles’ work was typified by a soulful ear and there’s a timeless quality to many of the tunes here that keep them relevant some 25 years after most of them were first released. ‘Your Love’ is a house staple with that ‘You Got The Love’ reference running through it like a major artery, the beautiful, almost ambient ‘Whistle Song’ is a great chillout tune, while the evergreen, soulful house ‘It’s Hard Sometime’ is a modern soul scene biggie. Inner City’s superb cover of the Mtume/Lucas penned, Stephanie Mills classic ‘Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin’ sounds fresh under Knuckles expert hand, Chaka Khan’s ‘Ain’t Nobody’ is given a space out, trance-like touch while Loose End’s anthemic ‘Hanging On A String’ is bolstered by Frankie’s genius.
