Jordan Rakei hails from Brisbane, Australia, a continent that produced the acclaimed jazz-funk ensemble Hiatus Kaiyote, and harbors a soul scene in thrall to the nu-funk stylings of early ’00s America. Rakei’s debut, ‘Cloak’, takes us back to that same sound. Influences from D’Angelo’s ‘Brown Sugar can be heard. Quite haunting in places, groove based soul, jazz and hip hop in the beats department. Stand out’s include ‘Midnight Mischief’, ‘The Light’, ‘Talk To Me’, ‘Rooftop’ and ‘Toko’ feat Richard Spaven. A fantastic debut from Jordan Rakei, some one we expect to hear a lot more from. Don’t sleep on this one!
