Sly Stone’s ‘I’m Just Like You: Sly’s Stone Flower 1969-70’ gathers each side of the five 45s released on the Stone Flower imprint plus ten previously unissued cuts from the label archives. Stone’s unique touch is evident on the production on a lot of these tracks: from that before-its-time electro drum machine funk to the hard, growly street soul, Sly’s stamp is there. There’s a fantastic hard funk version of ‘Like A Baby’ while Joe Hicks’ ‘Home Sweet Home Home’ is another roaring funk monster. Little Sister feature heavily on the compilation: their notable inclusions being ‘Somebody’s Watching You’ and ‘You’re The One’, while 6IX score with ‘Just Like You’. Good comp.
