JAZZHOLE - POET'S WALK
5th and best album from the NY band that features Marlon Saunders as lead vocalist. Outstanding production and Instrumentation combine with thoughtful lyrics and Marlon’s soulful voice to produce one of the albums of the year. Highlights are ‘All The Ways’ is an upbeat funky dancer, ‘Jonesin’ a mid tempo groove with great keyboards, the interesting cover of Boz Scaggs ‘Lowdown’, and the beautiful melodic
duet ‘It Would Have Been Enough’, which has a haunting feel and catchy hook. Also check the mid tempo grooves ‘Do It Right’ and the lilting ‘Timeless’. Many people are comparing this album to Maxwell’s ‘Urban Hang Suite’, it’s that good, and like the Anthony Hamilton set it raises the bar by which all other albums will be judged this year. This is Quality listening music.

VARIOUS - FUSION WITH ATTITUDE
In the early 70’s Jazz musicians started fusing jazz with funk and other music forms and made a style of music termed ‘Fusion’. The movement was led by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Grover Washington, Donald Byrd, Freddie Hubbard, Lonnie Liston Smith etc and sold millions.A whole movement built up and in this compilation many of the best tracks of the genre are featured, many appearing on CD for the first time. This compilation features tracks by lesser known but real jazz musicians playing outstanding fusion with an edge, funky fusion with attitude !!. All these tracks were recorded for independent labels, and are still owned independently now 30 years after release. You can imagine my surprise that we had to deal with Sonny Lester, Charles Tolliver and producer Nils Winther along with some of the artists themselves to license this material. Many of the tracks have become jazz club classics and have been exposed by DJ’s like Giles Peterson, Kevin Beadle, Russ Dewsbury, Patrick Forge, Eddie Pillar etc. Some of the tracks were popular when they came out and were played by Robbie Vincent in  the ‘70’s, others are more obscure only coming to light in the last 10-15 years, but all are in demand and of the highest quality.

PHAROAH SANDERS - YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE FREEDOM
Pharoah is one of the most unique sax players, and this Anthology (our first collaboration with Universal Jazz) brings together all the major tracks over his 40 year career. 'You've Got To Have Freedom' is a jazz dance classic, 'Creator Has a Masterplan' , 'Hum Allah Hum Allah'(both feat Leon Thomas) and 'Upper Egypt' are classic Spiritual Jazz, 'Black Unity' and 'Summun Bukmun Umyin' are highly rhythmic workouts. Lonnie Liston Smith 's influence is high on many tracks but particularly 'Astral Travelling' and 'Thembi', whilst 'Love Will Find A Way' and 'Heart Is a Melody' are beautiful haunting tracks. ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL .
