L.A female trio King first made their mark with an EP back in 2011 and the wait for a follow up has proven to be worth it. Their home-crafted brand of utopian soul and lush future funk brings to mind many influences while at the same time remaining inventive. From the astral grooves of ‘The Right One’, ‘Red Eye’ and ‘Supernatural’ to the Prince inspired ‘Carry On’, the gorgeous dreamy soul of ‘Native Land’, the skewed groove of ‘Carry On’ and the 80s sounding ‘In The Meantime’ the highly creative threesome excel. The sweet soul with an edge of ‘Mister Chameleon’, the angular groove of ‘Oh Please!’ and ‘The Story’ further ad to the many highlights on this really engaging album.
