First time that this rare Guadeloupean artist’s album has been reissued and heralds the start of the label’s ‘Antilles’ series. Recorded in 1988 Edmony – a trumpeter player, percussionist and singer-songwriter – was based in France and produced ‘Tijan Pou Velo’ as a tribute to the musicians of roots music. It’s an inventive blend of spiritual Jazz and influences of West African Gwo Ka sound: a melding of Soul, Jazz and Funk. The bustling ‘Tijan’, the skewed jazz of ‘Gwadloup’ and ‘Ritme A La Vi’ are the standouts on an engaging and exciting set.
