Future Prospect are a seven piece band from Richmond, Virginia and ‘The Climb’ showcases their slick, tight playing style on an album of almost exclusively instrumental tracks. Laid back modern Jazz with a nod to times past, the one vocal track ‘Almost Gone’ at the centre of the album has similarities to Jarrod Lawson, vocally and musically. It would probably be wrong to call this smooth Jazz as there’s a full band at work but the relaxed, easy grooves of ‘B.A.M’, the head nodder ‘Coffee’ and the expansive beauty of ‘Hub’ certainly have a chilled vibe to them. The more fusion feel of ‘First Attempt’ and the busy ‘MJ20’ are pacier numbers lifting the tempo.
