The Muscle Shoals Sound Studios located in Alabama was the birth place of much great Southern soul. The horn section provided a textual background for much of the studio’s output. They recorded 3 albums between 1976 and 1983. ‘Shine On’ dates from 1983 and combines their trademark Disco Funk of their two previous albums with an early eighties feel. The uptempo cuts like ‘Get Down Tonight’ and ‘Celebrate Recreate Participate’ retain the feel good factor of the seventies sets. ‘Shine On’ is another highlight with its slight EWF influence as is the infectious dancer ‘If You Don’t Want My Lovin’. It is two mid-tempo tunes that steal the show – the jazzy ‘Shoalin’ and the soulful ‘She Was Once My Woman’.
