Recorded in 1976 this at times folky jazz album with touches of blues and soul showcases the baritone voiced Joe Lee Wilson’s lauded talents. Wilson performed with many notable jazz musicians during the 1960’s including Sonny Rollins, Lee Morgan, Pharoah Sanders, Jackie McLean, and Miles Davis in the 60’s and featured on some of Archie Shepp’s albums. ‘Secrets From The Sun: Fighting To Be Free’ has a Leon Thomas feel, the crashing, busy ‘Mode For Trane’ is a highlight as is the frantic paced ‘Jazz Ain’t Nothin’ But Soul’.
