A new name to us Tony Lelo is a North Carolina native with a gospel pedigree who, as a teenager, toured the ‘Gospel Chitlin Circuit’ before turning his attention to Soul and R&B. S.E.V.E.N (his third album) sees contemporary, grown folks R&B fused with soul sensibilities which flourish on tracks such as ‘Ms Minority’, the funky ‘Two Moons’, the sunny, infectious ‘Cosmic Lover’, the irresistible dancer ‘Sugga’, the laid back groove of ‘Hold On To Me’ and the slight Isley’s feel of ‘Good Morning’. ‘Forever’ is a gorgeous, down tempo bit of southern soul while ‘Let Love Be’ excels as another quality, emphatic mid tempo dancer. Some really strong moments on this solid set.
