Lenny Williams recorded his only album for Motown, Rise Sleeping Beauty in 1975, the year he left Tower Of Power. The album was co-produced by fellow TOP member Chester Thompson and is mixture of love songs and social commentary tracks. Most of tracks were co-written with guitarist Danny Stallings who stayed with Lenny’s band for 20 years. The original version of ‘Cause I Love You’ has a little more tempo than the more famous 1978 ballad. ‘Since I Met You’ is a lovely mid tempo floater whilst ’Loving Station’ is a good beat ballad. The social ‘Sons of Thieves Slaves and Braves’ and title track show an interestingly different side to Lenny’s music.
