Pony’S Express

The alto saxophonist Pony Poindexter recorded ‘Pony’s Express’ in 1962. It features a veritable who’s who in the reed section – Dexter Gordon (tenor), Phil Woods (alto), Pepper Adams (baritone) and Eric Dolphy (alto). The Jazz dance tune ‘Catin Latin’ is classic, and there is a fine version of ‘Salt Peanuts’. ‘The Mickey Mouse March’ is another fine uptempo tune as is the modal ‘B Frequency’. There are some slow/ mid-tempo numbers too such as ‘Lanyop’.
