Killer debut full length from Sao Paulo’s Nomade Orquestra, on this self-titled set the multi-piece ensemble fuse latin, afrofunk, ethiojazz and otherworldy influences to cook up a melting pot of sounds that at times brings to mind the might of the Budos Band. ‘Bedum’ has that elephant-march Afro-funk feel, ‘Mapa de Tokio’ is punctuated by a wiry organ that winds and weaves throughout, ‘Fuego Policia’ is a powerful, full on swaggering funk assault while ‘A Ultima Que Morre’ thumps along and fuses that West Nile vibe with crashing Lagos horns. So many highlights on a brilliant set – the ender ‘A Vida Ven Em Ondas’ is the most uptempo track with a afro-jazz soundtrack feel. Recommended!
