Leela James has one of the most distinctive unique voices in contemporary soul music. Like Anthony Hamilton she has managed to appeal to both a Southern Soul and Urban audience without compromising her soulfulness. In this tribute she covers Etta James songs, keeps to their spirit but makes them contemporary. The classics ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ and ‘At Last’ and the jaunty ‘Something’s Got A Hold On Me’ rub shoulders with the beat ballads ‘I Want To Ta-Ta You Baby’ and ‘Sunday Kind Of Love’ and the mid tempo stepper ‘Loving You More Each Day’ is especially good. Nice album.
