Big voiced Lara Price delivers her 6th album with ‘I Mean Business’, a no-nonsense vintage bluesoul effort that rides the wave of the throwback sound to good effect. Her throaty delivery at times brings to mind the likes of Gladys Knight and Mavis Staples but she’s better on the slower tracks like the pure Memphis vibe of ‘Cryin Over You’, the sassy swampy blues of ‘Moon In The Mirror’ and the moody ‘Happy Blue Year’. Her cover of Ann Peebles ‘Slipped, Tripped , Fell In Love’ is brave and works well, ‘Time’ is a lovely deep soul rainy night ballad. Well worth exploring.
