Shakatak has become iconic in the British Jazz Funk scene. The band’s sound is unashamedly laid back and straddles Fusion and embryonic Smooth Jazz. Back in 1981, ‘Drivin Hard’ was their debut. It is probably still amongst the band’s best albums and includes the Latin tinged Jazz Funk dancer ‘Brazilian Dawn’. ‘Drivin Hard’ is something of a misnomer as the grooves are mellow, but ‘Livin In The UK’, ‘Covina’ and ‘Toot The Shoot’ are fore tasters of things to come for them.
