Self Contained Californian Band The Rebirth blew us away with ‘This Journey’s In’ 10 years ago. The Journey continues ‘Being thru the eyes of a child’ with a new female lead vocalist Baskerville Jones. ‘This Coming To’ and ‘By Design’ are typically Rebirth funky soul upper mid tempo grooves. ‘Wasteland’ is slightly more chilled but still chugs along nicely. ‘Caterpillar’ is a haunting short instrumental track which illustrates the bands musicianship. ‘Religion to me’ is possibly the album’s strongest cut, a lovely atmospheric mid tempo track with great vocals. The semi-instrumental ‘Show Em’ has slight shades of the Mizell Brothers in its approach, and the albums closer ‘Surrender the Pretender’ is a lovely down tempo cut highlighting Baskerville’s soulful voice. Great to hear this dynamic band again, really good album that takes a couple of plays to fully appreciate.
