{short description of image}PORSCHE SMITH ABOUT LIFE
Really good edgy organic style album. 'bebop' is a jerky jazz tinged foot tapper with horns, 'Crazy' , Little Brother' and 'Life' are strong mid tempo tracks that really grow on you and 'Its Up To You' and 'Be Where U Are' are head nodding dancers and the hypnotic 'Daydreamin' is slower. Porsche's vocal are the outstanding throughout and she also plays piano and guitar on this debut which gets better with each play.

{short description of image}LENNY WILLIAMS IT MUST BE LOVE CD £11.95
Very good album from one of soul's most under-rated singers who started with Tower Of power and made at least 14 consistent solo albums before this. The highlights are 'Tuesday' a bright catchy mid tempo dancer, 'Amen' a foot tapping handclapping uplifting dancer with great lyrics, 'Cant Nobody Do Me Like You Do' a southern style mid tempo ft former TOP trumpeter Mike Gillette, the 2 step ballad 'Torn Between Two Lovers' and the head nodder 'You're My Everything' . Also check the mid tempo ballads 'Loveland', 'It Must Be Love' and 'Somebody Else',. Consistently good album his best in a while.

Not the R&B singer but a duo backed by a full band from Canada prod by Eddie Bullen (Marisa Lindsay/liberty silver). Recorded a while back but only just coming to light. Musically similar to Funky Company or early BNH the album consists mainly of uptempo vocal numbers with good hooks like 'Resolution', 'Follow Me' , 'I'll Be There For You' 'Sunshine', 'Take Control', 'Step My Way' and the highlight 'Living and Loving'. Also check the mid tempo 'Are You Real' and 'Together'. Nice album to get you boppin'.

MIKELYN RODERICK COPASETIC IS
Very nice mainly mid tempo soul album from former By All Means vocalist which grows on you with each play. 'Easy', 'Thinkin Of Us', the cover of Stevie's 'If You Really Love Me' ft Rahsaan Patterson, '"Last Winter', 'Bless You' and the jazzier 'Slick And Deep' and 'Love Of My Life' are quality mid tempo tracks. The more uptempo groovers 'Slippin' and 'Morning Light' will get dance action but maintain the quality. Mikelyn's understated vocals are well suited to the material.

{short description of image}GERALD LEVERT IN MY SONGS
Released posthumously, this excellent Soul album reminds us all of his vocal prowess and the loss to Soul music his death was. Powerful, soulful yet subtle, Gerald's voice soars on slow tracks like 'In My Songs' and 'Sweeter' as well as on the stepper 'DJ Don't' or the outstanding dancer 'Wanna Get Up With You'. 'What Cha Think About That' is fine RnB Soul mid-tempo groover. A singer who is in the great tradition of Soul, whose music sounds fresh and contemporary too.

{short description of image}SHIRLEY SLAUGHTER PHILADELPHIA SOUL
Deeply soulful voiced Shirley (in a randy Crawford style) is backed by an all star Philly cast for this 7 tracker recorded at Sigma sound, prod by veteran Weldon McDougall 111. 'I Need Him' is a slow building ballad, 'I Still Love You' is a dancer with the old school mix working particularly well. Her version of Barabara Mason 'Yes I'm ready' and the ballad 'My Child' are good, but the real highlight is the ballad 'Take Advantage Of The Day' featuring writer Billy Butler on guitar.

4 HERO PLAY WITH THE CHANGES
4 Hero return with their most consistently soulful and by far their best album to date.
'Morning Child' ft Carina Anderson is a great orchestrated mildly funky upper mid tempo soul track in a similar vein to 'Black gold of the Sun'. 'Look Inside' is another orchestrated breezy dancer ft Face reminiscent of Incognito, whilst 'Take My Time' and 'Sink Or Swim' ft Lady Alma are bass led 80's infl grooves. The title track ft larry Mizell and has the Mizell layered sound, 'Awakening' ft spoken word from Ursula Rucker and a good cover of Stevies 'Superwoman' ft Terry Devos are also good. On the jazzier side 'Something In The Air' ft Bembe Segue and Kaidi Tatham is breezy jazz funk in the style of Agent K, 'Bed Of Roses' ft Jody Watley is a beaty jazz groover with nice keyboards and 'Sophia' and 'Why Don't You Talk' are good instrumentals. Really good quality mid tempo jazz tinged soul . Victor has a great deep soulful voice, the Brazilian band are tight and the production strong. 'Lovin You Baby' is a great brassy brazilian infl soul track, 'Keep Loving Me' a two stepper (ala Little Beaver let the good times roll), 'Believe It Or Not', 'Sunshine' and 'Your Ways' are more steppers, whilst 'Where Did We Go' is slightly slower. 'Be My Friend' and the cover of 'Never Can Say Goodbye' are slightly more jazzy but still soulful. Victor's voice really excels over the acoustic backing of this great album that will bring comparisons with Jon Lucien and will appeal to both Soul and Jazz Heads.

{short description of image} JILL SCOTT COLLABORATIONS
Stop gap album with 14 collaborations with other artists, most previously released on other peoples albums, a few unreleased. Jill's voice is of course magnificent throughout, especially on 'Love Rain (head nod and Coffee remixes), on the excellent cover of 'Good Morning Heartbreak' ft Chris Botti's trumpet, and the great duet with Eric Roberson 'One Time'. The ballad 'Said Enough' ft Isley Brothers and 'Slide' ft Jeff Bradshaw more contemporary, whilst 'God Bless The Child' ft George Benson and Al Jarreau is pure jazzy doo-wop, and the tracks with Common and Will Smith are hip hop. A real mixed bag.

{short description of image}MARISA LINDSAY SUBMIT TO LOVE
Barbadian Marisa goes to Canada and records an acoustic soul/jazz outing in a Badu-esq style produced by keyboardist Eddie Bullen (prod Liberty silver). The album consists of some originals and some hip updates on vocal standards and love songs, with minimal instrumentation. 'All Out Of Fools' is a highlight taken in a similar key to Badu's 'Tyrone', whilst 'Subit2love' is slow atmospheric number, 'Shadow Of You' builds nicely and 'Lover Man' Marisa's sweet voice is aided by some nice sax. The good covers of 'Waiting In Vain', 'Night And Day' , 'What A Difference (a day made)' 'God Bless The Child' and the shuffling 'You Don't Know What Love Is' which are arranged in a unique way. Really good downtempo album that will appeal to those who liked the Lizz Wright albums.

{short description of image}BLACK I- FOR YOU
NY band make a very interesting album that includes Teddy Crockett (Alison's brother), and Russell Gunn with Omar and Kenny Whitehead on vocals. 'Please U' , 'For You' are big beat mid tempo funky grooves with heavy bass. 'Peace Of Mind' is a slow acoustic track that builds, 'Pleasure' a hard hitting driving track, 'Sweet As The Sun' a mellow stepper and 'The Door' has a Prince like riff and vocal. The highlights are the great cover of Sly's 'Family Affair' ft Omar which retains the spirit of the original but gives a different twist and 'No More' which starts off slow and then builds into a nice orchestrated dancer with horns. This album takes a couple of plays to get into , but will repay the effort.

PEVEN EVERETT - POWER SOUL
Peven has his own distinctive underground sound with his understated vocals and deep grooves. 'Stuck' was a big 12" last year and its unrelenting groove pulsates throughout. The upper mid tempo 'Futuristic' is more musical with nice keyboards and grooves along, the hypnoytic 'Surely Shortly' , 'Cant Do Without', and 'Sexy Make Up' and 'Wild And Thick One' are more uptempo and typical Peven groovers coming slightly from the left side, however the highlight is the mid tempo foot taper 'This Just in' which sounds fresher and more soulful. Another interesting set that will please his existing fans.

{short description of image}KARL FRIERSON SOULPRINT

'Walking In New York' is another good mid tempo groover, 'Under Investigation' and 'Only You' are good ballads, whilst 'Freaklife' (inspired by Street life), is another mid tempo dancer, with an 80's feel. There are also some nice southern soul tracks notably the upbeat 'Down Home Southern Groove' and the mid tempo 'Tall Green Grass'. Quality old skool soul album.

Saxman/producer selects a bevy of Soul classics plus some originals and invites Soul superstars to add vocals resulting in this fine set. Mid-tempo covers like 'There'll Never Be' with Howard Hewett and 'Where Is The Love' featuring Phil Perry, Lori Pery and Maysa hit the spot. It is however the new tunes such as the hypnotic 'Share My Love', the ballad 'Miss You' and the superbly soulful 'Wonderful' that is the real joy. An album that will appeal to both Soul and Smooth Jazz fans.

'The highlights are 'Simple Things', 'Heartstrings' and 'Wind Beneath My Wings' are big ballads, whilst 'Listen' is a mildly funky full production mid tempo track and 'Next To You' a nice mid tempo dancer. The rest of the album
Sways towards mainstream R&B (Beyonce style) which is a shame as the soul tracks are excellent

New music from Detroit with an old school feel varying from late 60's to mid 80's styles, produced by Clay McMurray. 'If That's The Way You Want It' is a modern soul mid tempo foot taper, 'Desire' and 'You Danced Into My Life' are post disco stompers, whilst 'One Look is an 80's style boogie dancer.

Another Detroit album prod by Clay McMurray , this has all the hallmarks of classic 70's vocal harmony group soul (Dells/Intruders etc). 'When Your Next To Me' and 'Never Gonna Give You up' are modern soul dancers, 'Down And Out' has that mildly funky 70's dancer feel to it. Theres some nice falsetto led ballads 'Have A heart', 'Farewell Love' and 'When The Hurt IS Put Back On You' and probably best of all the shuffling ballad 'Love Vibrations' which has some really nice harmonies.

After his last great album, Brian reverts to his usual mix of R&B steppers and MOR ballads.
'Used To Be My Girl' is a good stepper, 'Comfortable', 'Whats My Name' and 'Unhappy Without You' are R&B mid tempo tracks that typify Brian. The mid tempo 'Our Love' and the catchy 'Quality Time' are also highlights. 'Selfish One' is a 70's style mid tempo dancer (think 'This will be') and 'Promises' a two stepper. {short description of image}JOY DENALANE BORN AND RAISED

Outstanding album that will appeal to both new and old school soul fans from great new vocalist who sounds a little bit like Angie Stone, whilst the album reminds me of Leela James album of last year. The album was recorded in Philadelphia with full instrumentation, strings and horns arranged by Larry Gold. The highlights are the great mid tempo dancer 'One In A Million', the lilting ballad duet with Governor 'Something Stirrin Up' and 'Change' a great up-tempo nu soul track that not even Lupe Fiasco's spoken rap can deflect from. Joy really shines on mid tempo ballads like 'Be Real', '7 Year Itch' 'Stranger In This Land' and 'Sometimes Love' and the beat ballads 'For The Love' , 'Caught Up' ,'Born and Raised' and the old skool 'Start Over' but also check the funky (ala Sharon Jones) 'Soweto 76-06'.
Great album that will probably be amongst the top albums of 2007.

{short description of image}XANTONE BLACQ TO THE HEAVENS AND BEYOND

Much anticipated debut album from UK's own Xantone. 'With You' a nice light groover with vocals from Emmanuella Panizzo and a catchy bridge. The single 'Yes I Do' is a great catchy uplifting Steve-ish sing-along dancer (think Do I Do) and the albums highlight. 'Samba De Lagos' is a nice jazzy/samba instrumental with incidental vocals (like George Duke), 'Search For The Sun' has Roy Ayers feel, and 'Make Me Wanna' another breezy up-tempo gem. 'You're Fly' is a light foot taper, and the piano (xan) and Sax (Gilly Roth) led 'Without You' has a Grover Washington feel. A strong album that is fresh but familiar with heavy 70's soul and jazz funk references.

His trademark sound driven by a heavy bass (think Musical Massage) can be heard on 'Speechless', 'That Takes Me To Heaven', 'Too Close To The Fire' and 'Meltdown', whilst 'Assurance' and 'I Fell In love' have that slight Brazilian feel that Ware's recent albums had. 'How Far Can We Go' is the highlight a great mid tempo track that really gets you' , and 'For The Tender' with great sax from Gerald Albright isn't far behind. This will appeal to those who like Quality mellow soul.

Great consistent old school style soul follow up to their ‘Labor Of love’ album. ‘You Touched My heart’ and ‘You Love Me’ are both great two steppers ft Ward Brown’s deep soulful voice. ‘You’re Contagious’ is a nice upper mid tempo dancer, whilst ‘Me Around’ and ‘Toss N Turn’ are catchy modern soul dancers with horns. ‘Rain’ and ‘More Than Friends’ are good ballads, and the remixes of ‘No More Love’ and ‘Things You Say’ from their debut will appeal to dancers. Strong follow up to his massive debut is more mature allowing John’s voice to shine over some nice melodies and dancers. The single ‘Save Room’ is like a late 60’s floor filler, ‘Heaven’ an understated dancer and ‘Another Again’ a full production mid tempo head nodder. The 60’s theme is maintained with the beat ballad ‘Slow Dance’, and the shuffler ‘Maxine’, with the highlights being the motown style dancers ‘Each Day Gets Better’ and the great P.D.A (We just don’t care). Incredible live session from one of our favourite word-song singers backed by an acoustic band (drums, piano, guitar, dbl bass) in a San Francisco restaurant. Kofy’s vocals soar over the warm but funky and jazzy as hell band. The driving ‘Let It Go’, Atmospheric ‘Do’ and catchy ‘What Could Be’ are familiar tracks to KB fans but this session brings them to life like N’Dambi did on ‘Tunin Up’ to songs from her first album. ‘The menacing ‘Dope Fiend’, more mellow ‘Fender Rhodes’ and the great 16 min ‘Cat In The Hat’ are equally strong. This is music with an edge that you can really feel. Wish I’d been at the gig.

{short description of image}FRANK McCOMB THE TRUTH 2

At last Franks' legendary Motown album gets an official and properly mastered release, combined with the remainder of his Malibu Sessions with Steve Harvey. The ballads 'More Than Friends', 'Only In My Dreams', 'So Lovely', 'Labelled As Love' and 'Intimate Times' illustrate why Frank is often compared to Donny Hathaway, with sparse keyboards and THAT deep soulful voice. The cover of Stevie's 'Golden Lady' is of course brilliant, and the slightly more groove driven 'Somebody Like You', 'Do You Remember' and the outstanding 'Love Is On Its Way' are also highlights. Even if you have a bootleg copy, you need this version of this timeless album from one of the premier artists of our time. Unmissable.

ANTHONY DAVID - RED CLAY CHRONICLES

Anthony's second album is in a similar vien to but improves upon his first. 'Stop Playin' is a great mid tempo soulful foot taper, 'Everything Is Everything', 'Smoke one' and 'Words' ft India Arie are slightly slower but retain the vybe. 'Atl Sunshine'and 'Something About You' are real feel good catchy mid tempo tunes, and the hypnotic 'Kin Folk' and funkier 'Shonuff' maintain the quality, but the real killer is the title track a social commentary in the style of Cunnie Williams or Gil Scott Heron pure magic. This album grows all over you and is Atlanta Soul at its best, quality listening music with an edge (like a modern day Bill Withers), and will appeal to those who dug PJ Morton's excellent 'Emotions' set.

'ABC' ft Bernard Purdie is a slinky hard hitting funky dancer, 'I Decided' a beautiful mid tempo atmospheric beat ballad and 'Feeling Lonely' a great ballad. Most of the album is mid tempo with highlights the Organic groover 'Groove DJ', the floaters 'Embrace Me' and 'Get Away' , the funkier 'Sophisticated Sista' and 'Work For Me' and the jazzier 'Waiting'. One of the best female albums so far this year.

MARCELL AND THE TRUTH HOPES TOO HIGH
What a great uplifting album featuring the deep soulful voiced Baltimore based Marcell and a great band. 'Never Leave You Lonely' is a great inspiring jerky dancer (with shades of Rance Allen group), 'Hopes Too High' and 'Cold Rain' have a 2 step groove, whiles the string laden 'Breathe Love' and 'Your Eyes' have a Maze Influence. 'Maybe I'm Not The Man' is a nice mid tempo ballad (ala In The Rain) and the slower 'Coming Home To You' builds into a great climax. 'Evil Woman' is a modern dancer (using the riff from Valdez In The Country) and the driving 'Sending Your Way' also standout in this consistent album.

{short description of image}SOPHIA DARCELL - SOUL ECLECTIC
Very nice smooth and sultry album from Miami songstress, that reminds me of both Sade and the Kuh Ledesma album from a few years back. The catchy dancer '7 Seas' has a mildly funky backing, 'They Love Like That' is a modern dancer, 'Ceyrah' and 'Make up Your Mind' are mid tempo tracks with unusual backing. The mid tempo plodder 'Senor Alvarez' is another highlight. The full band play well throughout and the soft horns and acoustic guitar interspersing with Sophia's sophisticated voice gives the album a nice feel, that is familiar but refreshingly different, which will appeal to both soul and smooth jazz fans.

{short description of image}GARY TAYLOR - RETRO BLACKNESS

Gary's best album for a few years, mainly consisting of the quality soulful mood music that he is known for. 'Love Like No Other' and 'Loving My People' are good mid tempo plodders, whilst 'Do You Know','Old School', 'As If', 'Soul Murder', 'Thought I Knew You' and the great 'Ghetto People' are typical Taylor atmospheric mid tempo grooves. The killer though is 'My Blackness' a great mid tempo dancer that really stands out.

{short description of image}RAY ROBINSON - WHAT IT IS

Canadian Ray, produces an album that in places has a D'Angelo feel to it. 'My Heart' is a good dancer in a Raphael Saadiq style, 'I'm Down' 'Good Times' and 'Heaven' are beat led mid tempo plodders whilst 'Girlfriend' has a more commercial feel to it with its catchy hook line. The slower mid tempo 'Gone', 'Bad Times' and the atmospheric 'Pleasure Is Pain' are amongst the highlights and really make the D'Angelo connection, whilst 'Patiently Waiting' is a nice beat ballad. This album is a real grower and well worth the effort of getting into.

{short description of image}GOVERNOR - SON OF PAIN
Powerful voiced Governor Washington makes a lyrically strong intense album that is a good mix of Soul and R&B, that has an edge and improves with every play. 'Blood Sweat And Tears' using a Bohannon sample has a Jahiem/Donell Jones feel and is the most instant track. 'Out Of My Hands', and 'Forgive Me' (sampling Creed/Bell 'Lazy Susan') are also hard hitting soul tracks. 'Destiny' and the Raphael Saadiq produced cover of Donny H's haunting 'Never Wanna Leave' are more mellow and soulful and the albums highlights, but also check the mid tempo ballads 'That's What I'm Talkin' and 'On My Way'.

{short description of image}INCOGNITO BEES + THINGS + FLOWERS

Bluey hits a retro groove with this album primarily consisting of covers and re-arrangements.. Check Roy Ayers' 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine' featuring Joy Rose on vocals and the smouldering take of 'Summer In The City', where Carleen Anderson takes the lead. Maysa adds her unique vocals to the evergreen 'Thats The Way Of The World'. Several Incognito classics are given different semi-acoustic takes including 'Always There' and 'Still A Friend Of Mine'.

{short description of image}SUPER-PHONICS INTERSTELLAR
This selection of fine soulful and upbeat grooves is provided by a collection of stellar UK session players. Try the driving riff-laden 'Dial L For Love' or the funkier Clavinet led 'Give A Little Love'. Linda Williams' 'Elevate Our Minds' is given a flute driven jazzy re-working, whereas 'Interstellar' is an early 80's style British Jazz Funk dancer. 'Everybody' follows a similar theme (Incognito/Freeez influence). Highly recommended.

Welcome return from the 80's soulstress, this is the remastered version of an album from earlier this year.

{short description of image}AMP FIDDLER - AFRO STRUT

Amp's second album is actually stronger than his great debut. 'Faith' is a great funky foot tapper with a great B-Line. 'Right Where you Are', the unusual 'If I Don't' and 'Ridin' are all relentless dancers, 'Find My Way' a nice mid tempo plodder with a catchy hook and 'Hustle' a string laden atmospheric mid tempo groove (ala Hutson/Curtis). The beautiful melodic duet with Stephanie McKay 'Heaven' which features Bluey on guitar is one of the best tracks of the year so far. Outstanding album.

{short description of image}MALA WALDRON - ALWAYS THERE

Quality vocal jazz with soulful overtones (ala Rachelle Ferrell/Carmen Lundy), from another lady with a famous father (the late pianist Mal Waldron). ‘Whispers In The Wind’ is a killer jazzy soul midtempo floater, ‘Ellie’ a scat vocal jazz dancer (ala Tania Maria) showing Mala’s keyboard skills, whilst ‘BVeacuae Of you’, ‘Always There’, ‘Too Good For Words’ and ‘I Do Remember You’ are more jazzy. Mala has a great deep soulful voices and this is best illustrated on the catchy midtempo soulful ‘Cant Stop Thinking About You’, the upper mid tempo ‘Maybe Its Not So’ and her slinky cover of ‘Light My Fire’.
This is quality throughout and probably the best jazzy soul album so far this year.

{short description of image} YOLANDA JOHNSON - VIOLET FLOWER

Great Organic soul album from the daughter of Samuel Jonathan (of ‘My Music’ fame). Mainly consisting of funky mid tempo organic dancers like ‘Fly.. Shine’, ‘Keep It Moving’ , ‘Doing Dirty’ and best of all ‘Individual’, it also includes the great hypnotic mid tempo floaters ‘Running’ and ‘Change’ and probably the outstanding track is the slightly slower and more soulful ‘Get 2 Know U’ . Although only seven full tracks, this is possibly the best ‘Organic’ album of the year so far.

RONI - CALL ME

Subtitled ‘The Sexy Lady Of Southern Soul’ Rhonda McCullum (Roni) has a powerful soulful voice, which is strong throughout the album. The up beat ‘Do You Want’, and ‘Hit It Writer’ are winners, along with the more typical southern mid tempo dancers ‘Lets Shake It’ and ‘Cheatin On Me’. Roni’s voice is best suited though to the ballads ‘Call Me’ , ‘Love Grows’, ‘Not Gonna’, ‘Fool On My Hands’ and ‘Cant Stop A Good Thing’. One of the best southern soul album for a while, if liked the Ms Monique album , then you should love this.

{short description of image}GLENN JONES - FOREVER
10 Soul classics are given the Glenn Jones treatment and a continuation in this series that included Maysa's 'Sweet Classic Soul and Phil Perry's 'Classic Love Songs'. Jones' powerful and soulful voice glides effortlessly on songs like 'Anniversary'. Standout is the Roberta Flack/Donny Hathaway's 'Where Is The Love' on which Glenn duets with wife Genobia (Jeter). Highlights include 'Another Sad Song', Peabo's 'Reaching For The Sky' and his own 'Here I Go Again'. The combination of Mr Jones exquisite vocals and quality songs is unmissable.

{short description of image}TERISA GRIFFIN - MY NAKED SOUL
TERISA GRIFFIN - MY NAKED SOUL CD £12.95
Terisa posesses one of those classic soul voices that ooze emotion with every nuance, like a Brenda Russell or Roberta Flack. Check the slow 'Did You Ever' with some nice rhodes backing or the slightly faster 'Sunshine', or 'Wonderful all timeless tracks. The midtempo 'Rose Coloured Glasses', 'Love Changed' and the catchy 'Alright' are also great songs, with sympathetic real instrumentation.'Cigarette In The RAin' is more contemporary but still very soulful. This is a very unusual album of its time, no dancers, beats or grooves just quality pure naked soul, and very refreshing for it, check it out !

OMAR CUNNINGHAM - WORTH THE WAIT
Omar possesses a rich voice in the tradition of Johnnie Taylor and Tyrone Davis. This quality Southern Soul combines the vocals with strong songs and melodies. Check the dancer 'Party Have A Good Time' and the chugging mid-tempo groover 'Made My Move'. Try also the slower 'I'm In Love With A Woman', but the standout is the riff-laden 'Better Days' that has echoes of Anthony Hamilton's 'Preachers Daughter' awesome.

{short description of image}CONYA DOSS - LOVE RAIN DOWN

Conya's third album is again produced by Myron and mainly reflects his trademark mix of Soulful and R&B flavas. 'Tell Me Why', 'Find A Way' and 'Never Mind' are nice mid tempo plodders, 'Those Wur De Dayz' is a funky dirge like groover, 'Beautiful Thing' is slightly faster but retains the groove. 'The One' is a great mid tempo ballad with interesting chords showing her sweet voice to its best, and 'Why Did You' is a great uptempo jazz dancer and for me the highlight of the album.

{short description of image}SLY - CHI
SLY CHI - WAVE SOUNDS CD £12.95
Brassy, funky grooves from Portland Maine. This large group remind me of Tower of Power, Pleasure and in places early Brand new Heavies, full of energy, supertight, a full horn section and four singers. 'Wave Sound', Step on Up' Lost in Time' and 'Emotions' are all relentless funky grooves. 'Waiting For The Sun' , 'Animo' and 'I Can do' are slighlty jazzier but still funky whilst 'Hold On' and 'Its Everything' are more vocal and mellow being almost 2 step in pace. Another very different sounding album, well worth checking.

{short description of image}VANESSA HAYNES - STAY WITH ME
This excellent debut puts Vanessa's powerful voice in the spotlight. The album has a unique sound that combines the best of the British 90's Soul sound with more contemporary influences. There are four standouts: the jazzy dancer 'Steppin Out', the lilting mid-tempo 'I Wonder', and the similarly paced head nodder 'Embrace' and the awesome 'Somewhere Under The Radar'. Strong instrumentation compliment the lady's undoubted vocal prowess.

KENNY THOMAS - CRAZY WORLD

One of the most anticipated albums of the year. ‘Crazy World’ has been a popular modern soul dancer for a couple of years, and is typical of the rest of the album. ‘I Will’ is a punchy brassy dancer, ‘No Way In No Way Out’ another dancer with a late 70s Barry White feel, and ‘Sunshine Girl’ probably the best new uptempo track on the album. ‘Him’ is a great mid tempo funky dancer with great strings (ala Hutson),
‘Fooling Around’ is of a similar tempo , and the slightly slower’ Let It Rain’ also hit the mark. Strong album, - one of the best blue - eyed soul albums of recent times. View all KENNY THOMAS Titles

{short description of image}DIVINE BROWN - DIVINE BROWN
A Strong contemporary Soul album, that combines different flavours. The killer song is the opener ‘Old skool Love’ but the ballad ‘My Cryin Eyes’ and down home feel of ‘U Shook Me’ run it close. ‘Longer Than I’ growls with understated bluesy Funk – gritty guitar riffs and wandering b-line underpin Devine’s powerful vocal. The set manages to sound very up to date and yet has a classic soul vibe mainly due to the vocal arrangements. If you liked Tasha’s World recent set then this is for you.
