Azymuth's first album from 1974/75 is massively in-demand on vinyl, but is now out on CD. Their trademark Brazilian Jazz Funk sound is instantly recognisible, however the feel is less polished than in their 80's heyday. Funky Jazz cuts like 'Estrada Dos Deuses' and the infectious 'Melo Dos Dois Bicudos' are quality cuts, but the real killer is the jazz dance classic 'Morning'. Try the jazzy instrumental 'Periscopio', the popular and the breezy vocal 'Linha Do Horizonte'. Bonus album of contemporary remixes.

VARIOUS - GILLES PETERSON DIGS AMERICA
16 Tracks that have featured on Giles radio show illustrating wide selection of musical styles that he plays. Harold McKinney 'Ode To Africa' is a great funky spiritual jazz track, and from a similar direction but more uptempo is Ensemble Al Salaam 'Circles'. Tracks from Ira Sullivan, Bobby Cole and Jon Lucien's magnificent debut 'Search for the Inner Self' are among the best jazz tracks. 47 Times Its Own Weight 'March Of The Goober Woobers' is an almost impossible to find funker, whilst JR Bailey's timeless 'Just Me N You' is an essential slab of early 70's soul. VARIOUS - FREEDOM JAZZ DANCE 2
Second volume of Quality Italian Jazz is actually better than the first one. Soulstance 'Lead The Way', Dalindeo 'Solfer Lento', Invisible Session 'Heroes Of The Conquest' Quintetto Lo Grego 'Yes And No' and Gerardo Frisina 'Gicas Dance' are all great uptempo instrumentals that represent a 2005 update of the classic Blue Note sound. Luis Ferri 'My Love Samba' is a really nice horn lead semi-vocal Brazilian tinged dancer. Also check S-Tone Inc 'Some Kind Of Blues (jazz mood inst)', and Paolo Fedreghini/Marco Bianchi 'Circus In C Minor' and 'Stars', and whilst Jukka Escola '1974' shows why it's the year of Finnish Jazz, the Italians have given them a good run for their money. Great comp.
