The lyrically strong songs on this debut along with Frankie's so soulful vocals went a long way to establish them as a major force. 'Time Is on my Side' and 'Color Blind' are good funky soul strutters, 'Lady Of Magic' a beautiful melancholy ballad, and 'While I'm Alone' an acknolwledged classic. The sing-a-long 'Happy Feelin's epitomises Maze's laid back Californian sound, but it is on the albums two longest cuts that they really get into their stride and produce that special magic that we associate with them. 'You' has that distinctive Keyboard/Rhythm guitar sound and a pulsating rhythm with many changes as it builds to a crescendo. 'Look at California' reflects the bands feelings about their adopted home that starts as a mellow mid tempo track then breaks into a fiery percussive groove and then back again, sheer brilliance. One of the most impressive debut albums ever.

MAZE- GOLDEN TIME OF DAY CD £9.95
Maze second album continued the vybe of their debut. 'Travellin Man' and 'Working Together' are semi-funky groover's that have that distinctive Maze sound. 'Golden Time Of Day' is an all time classic, a mellow tune with great lyrics , very uplifting. ' I Wish You Well' is another good mellow track and 'I Need You' a 10 min epic that goes through changes.

Maze's third album from 1979 has a very uplifting inspirational feel albeit the music is mainly mid tempo. 'Lovely Inspiration' is a beautiful mid tempo soul prayer, the 2 stepper 'Call On me' has a similar feel to it. 'Feel That You're feelin' is albums most well know track and biggest hit, it is a really great mid tem[po groover with catchy chorus and at one point Frankie holds onto the note forever. 'Woman Of The World' is an atmospheric mid tempo floater that builds and builds, whilst 'Timin' and 'Welcome Home' are funkier groovers. This album is sometimes overlooked but it is a very strong album

MAZE JOY AND PAIN CD £9.95 Original Vinyl LP £12
Their classic 4th album from 1980 (and their most popular) sees Maze with new Band members and more upbeat and energized, on which every track is strong. 'Changing Times' is a struttin uptempo number,'Southern Girl' a funky groover dedicated to the girls of Texas, 'The Look In your Eyes' a heartfelt catchy mid tempo love song and 'Roots' an afro influenced driving funky instrumental with great keyboards. 'Family' and ''Happiness' are beautiful mellow dreamy ballads, but it is their all time classic 'Joy And Pain' a delightful catchy mid tempo groover with great lyrics inspired by a poem by 19th century Lebanonese philosopher Kahlil Gilbran which is an institution in itself if this doesn't make you feel positive nothing will. Classic album.

Quite simply one of the best live albums ever recorded , taken from a concert in New Orleans in 1981. The Original album had 8 live tracks (You, Changing Times, Joy And Pain, Happy Feelin's, Southern Girl, Look At California, Feel That You're Feelin and Look In Your Eyes) plus 4 newly recorded studio cuts, the driving 'Running Away' , classic groover 'Before I let Go' with its great hook and the ballads 'We Need Love To Live' and 'Reason'. The CD misses off two tracks 'You' and 'Happy Feelin's, the DVD has these but omits 'The Look InYour Eyes' but has 3 bonus video's including 'We Are One'. Classic concert.

MAZE SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND CD £9.95 Compilation of some of Maze's 80's (mainly uptempo) material. Incl the classics 'Joy And Pain', 'We Are one' and 'Before I Let Go' (live version), plus the great instrumental 'Twilight'. Also incl 'Too Many Games, 'I Want To Feel That I'm Wanted' and 'I Wanna Be With You' with extended versions,' Can't Stop The Love' and 'Back In The Stride'. Complements the classic albums above.
