WEEK 35: …. LET CONYA DOSS SEDUCE YOUR SOUL!!!
Two fabulous albums are out this week so after the deluge of the past couple of weeks it is back to quality over quantity.
The eagerly anticipated Seductive Souls set pips the new Conya Doss to album of the week. Seductive Souls lives up to the name and has a retro 70’s feel, whilst Conya’s fifth album is a return to the vibe of her outstanding debut ‘A Poem About Ms Doss’.
Arrop Roy is not a name that roles easily off the tongue, but if you like Silhouette Brown then this one may press the right buttons.
Beres Hammond and Boris Gardner are two of Reggae’s most revered stars and the reissue of an album with a Soul/Funk/ RnB slant by each is overdue.
Cheryl Lynn is a fine singer and a new Best Of at budget price has just winged its way in.
After a bit of a barren year for Japanese CD reissues, suddenly there is a whole bunch of them, 17 to be precise. Our Japanese CD shipment is in transit and arrives early next week, most probably Tuesday. Some have almost run out on pre-orders, so don’t sleep on these if you really want them. We will endeavour to re-order those that have huge demand, but pressing runs are now so small that either the CDs will run out and not be re-pressed or there will be a delay before they become available again.

We have just received several hundred records from the US, some great titles too. We will be sending out a special mailer with many of these on next week, but if you have any specific wants just email/ phone us to get priority for those items.

We have updated our website, so that each CD has its own page. We are gradually putting the reviews and soundclips onto the site. About 1,500 are on so far with all of the most recent releases and reissues covered. It is easy to access through the quick search facility, key in the artist and or title, then click on ‘view’ in the ‘review/audio’ column, and the individual page for that title will display. Please bear with us as regards those titles that do not have clips/ reviews at present. Please use the Quick Seacrh facility at the top right of the mailer.

Great album produced by Rob Hardt (Cool Million) with a 70's modern soul and disco influence. 'Is This Love' is a modern soul dancer, 'Your Love' ft Aaron Washington is a great mid tempo soul track, and the bright and breezy dancer 'How It feels' also scores. 'Seductive Hustle' is a great jazz funk instrumental, and Donald Mc Cullum shines on the killer ballad 'Real Love' and the cover of Brick's disco funk classic 'Dazz'.

One of our favourite singers of the 2000’s returns with a more soulful album. The mid tempo foot taper ‘What We Gonna Do’ is typically Conya, in the style of her classic first album, ‘No More’ and ‘Sweet As Honey’ are Organic soul 2 steppers. ‘Never Be The Same’, ‘All In You’ and ‘Pointless’ are more mellow.

WES BERWISE’S AUGUST ALBUM OF THE MONTH
 Richard Earnshaw - In Time
Good things come to those who wait, and wait we have for British producer and musician Richard Earnshaw’s debut album. Indeed it’s been seven years since the project began but as the title of the album suggests it has arrived right on time. As we seem to be slowly passing through a period of ever deepening nostalgia, it’s so refreshing to hear an album which although building heavily on the musical foundations of our soulful forefathers, this uplifting set intertwines freshness and maturity in a manner that totally belies the fact that this is his first release.
A music graduate of London University, Richard Earnshaw has established himself as an important figure in the UK soul and house music scene. And on this multi vocal release successfully mixes big groove dance, jazz funk instrumentals, ballads, gospel and even spoken word, leaving one wondering just why we haven’t heard so much more from this man before!
Guest appearances include Carleen Anderson, Roy Ayers, Joceyln Brown, Kenny Thomas and Ursula Rucker amongst others, and the quality and the refinement of the production and the song writing does all of them justice.
This album exudes class and has to be one of the highlights of 2010 so far, and contains tracks that you’ll be enjoying for a long time to come.
Highly recommended.
