Superb Italian Jazz that swings and flows and with so many great tracks.    ‘Transitions’ has a Coltrane and contrasts with the lighter ‘Rolling Stars’ with its female scat vocal.  The light touch continues with the vocal ‘Fly Rome’.  ‘Walking Fast’ is an uptempo funky Jazz groove with strong horns – very Japanese Jazz style.   ‘Night Travel’ hits a Fusion groove, whilst ‘Between 6th & 7th’ adds a cooler Latin feel.  Throughout the musicianship is absolutely superb.  This is a contender for the Jazz album of 2009, given Schema and Japanese releases that is saying something!

Fantastic good time jazzy soul and jazz funk album of uplifting grooves featuring some UK singers and some fabulous real instrumentation. The groove driven uptempo 'Spirit Of love' and 'It's The Way' ft Vanessa Freeman, there's a good uptempo cover of Mandrill's classic 'Feelin Good' and the outstanding horn and string mid tempo 2 stepper 'My Dream Came True' both featuring the soulful vocals of Leon King. 'On and On' ft Shea Soul is quality neo-soul and there some great jazz funk instrumentals 'Sky High' the horn backed 'Moog Rock' both featuring some great keyboards and 'Disco Tech Tribe' .
Overall a brilliant album with bundles of energy that will keep your spirits high.

Interesting Jazz album that has that Quantic twist coupled with a Latin vibe.  Quantic manages to take traditional music form and make them sound fresh and innovative.  This makes it hard to compare since this sound unlike even their other projects.

Unified Tribe has established themselves as one of the leading underground soul bands of the decade.  Their powerhouse sound with lots of real instruments and multi vocalists brings back memories of the great bands of the late 70’s/early 80’s.  The up-tempo cuts like ‘Get Up’, ‘Guilty’, ‘Alright’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Be In Love’ and ‘Movin On’ will keep the feet moving. The mid tempo ‘Monkey’ and ‘Intensions’ also groove along nicely... and check the ballads ‘Living Without You’ and ‘I’m Sorry’. Good time soul album.

JONATHAN FRITZEN VIP CD £12.95
Swedish Smooth Jazz pianist is a new name to us, but this his second album is a finely sculptured selection of highly melodic slick tunes likes 'VIP' with its catchy theme and infectious riff. 'Stay' and 'If You Want It' have a vocal chorus. 'Standard' and 'In Motion have similar laid-back vibe, held together by simple melodies played by piano. 'The New Vibe' is a nice mellow groover and on 'Coast Line' Michael Lington's sax shares the spotlight with Fritzen. The production is clean and the relaxed feel runs through this classy album from start to finish.

Vibrant Funk from this funky set of UK session musicians who are among the finest in the country (think Incognito, Brand New Heavies etc).  Loved by Deep Funk fans, this group have hints of early Kool And The Gang and Funk Inc to their sound.  Horns and rhythm section are superb.  Every track is strong but try ‘Tie One On’, ‘The Crisis Generator’ and ‘The Taking Of Peckham 343’ for starters.

GROVER WASHINGTON JR – REED SEED CD £12.95
Reed Seed was the first studio album that Grover recorded with Locksmith backing him and followed his move from Kudu to Motown. There is tightness to the ensemble playing that reflects a band that plays together continually. Check the Jazz Funk grooves like 'Do Dat', the cool Latin tinged 'Maracas Beach' with its riff laden backing or Grover's version of 'Loran Dance' he penned for Idris Muhammad 4 years previously. Also try the superb Jazz Funk of 'Step N Thru'. Grover's version of Billy Joel's 'Just The Way You Are' is the definitive Jazz take on the classic.

Detroit based harmony recorded this, their only full album in 1967 for RCA. The harmonies are tight and reflect that Motor City style that Motown personified.  If anything it sounds slightly earlier than its date of release.  Check the wonderful ‘Since I Found My Baby’ or the barnstorming ‘Do The Pied Piper’.

Southern Soul fans and fans of the Malaco label will love this excellent selection that focuses on three singers: Chuck Brooks (9 tracks 2 previously unreleased), Joe Wilson (13 tracks, 6 previously unreleased) and George Soule (3 tracks, 2 previously unreleased).   The songs were recorded mostly in the early 70’s.

Another treat for Southern Soul fans from the Soulscape label. These recordings cover the period 1965 – 1970 and features Brown’s recordings for Sound Stage 7 and Renegade labels.  His vocals and rich raw and soulful and there is a simplicity to the recordings that has transcended. 21 tracks.

Superior rare 1982 album includes the all time classic 2 stepper ‘Ready Ready Love’ featuring Eddie Levert.  The ballad ‘You Know Me I Know You’, 2 stepper ‘Last Night In My Dreams’ and the mid tempo groover ‘Here I Go Again’ are also highlights. The 80’s boogie title track and ‘So Right’ and the more uptempo ‘If Youre In A Hurry’ will keep the feet moving.
