WEEK 1
We wish all our customers a happy new year.
It was great seeing so many of our friends and customers at the Luxury Soul Weekender in Blackpool last weekend, it really is a great event and the Valentine Brothers blew us all away, fantastic old school soul.
The Luxury Soul 2012 triple CD is now in stock and is essential and includes Eric Benet’s version of ‘Wake Up Everybody’ which somehow didn’t make the Physical edition of his ‘Lost in Time’ set.
Also there is a good 5CD set of the Best Of Al Kent’s Disco Demands featuring 45 obscure underground disco tracks and re-edits, also available as two double LP sets.
Later this week we will receive the first of many compilations that will be released this year celebrating the 40th anniversary of Philadelphia International. ‘The Re-Edits’ contains 21 recent re-edits of Philly classics and lesser known gems on a double CD.
There is also a nice retrospective of UK funk band Push and a couple of good 45’s from Soul Junction.
Soul Brother new year sale is on until 31st Jan 2012. We are offering selected Soul Brother and Expansion CD titles at £9.99 each or 5 for £40.
There is also a wide range of classic albums that are available in this deal.
Also for fans of the radio show be sure to tune in as we will be playing a selection of the best from 2011 plus a few new tracks. You can listen to past shows here
Soulfully yours
Laurence.

BEST ALBUMS OF 2011 REVIEW The best albums of this year show the diversity of styles of Soul and Jazz music, from the smoothness and sheer quality of Eric Benet, energy of Deborah Bond and Josh Milan to the gritty soul of The Revelations and Tad Robinson. On the jazz side Nicole Conte delivered as always, and M Swift/24 Karat, Native and Colman Brothers made great jazz dance albums, Down To The Bone and Richard Elliot made their best for a while, and Matthew Halsall’s modal album shines the light for British Jazz.
This year will also be remembered for the scale and quality of reissues. From the classic 70’s Soul of Willie Hutch, O’Jays, Johnnie Taylor, Candi Staton and Skullsnaps to the unearthing of lost gems from Willie Tee and Janice and one of the best 80’s boogie albums Khemistry.
Bennie Maupin, Harvey Mason and Jon Lucien classic jazz fusion albums, and strong compilations Skip Scarborough Songbook, Ralph tee’s luxury Soul and Spirit of Philadelphia 3 rounded off the classics. Click here or click the image above to view
