WEEK 10 – LEE FIELDS AND SMOOTH JAZZ

Lee Fields is a veteran soul and funk singer who reached a wider audience with his last album ‘My World’. His new album ‘Faithful Man’ is a good follow up which will appeal to those who liked the last album and Sharon Jones/Charles Bradley etc.
Lee’s gritty soulful voice really stands out and the musicianship is of the highest level.

It is the best week for a long time for smooth jazz fans with strong albums from Peter White, Paul Brown, Shilts and Chris Standring.

Hubert Laws classic Family, in demand 80’s boogie classic Plush and John Abbey’s wife Tamiko Jones are quality reissues.

Pre- order for next week  the new Incognito album ‘Surreal’ where Bluey has changed the vocalists and the sound a little , check the great cover of ‘Ain’t it Time’. Also next week at long last the Philadelphia international classics – Tom Moulton remixes and the next album on our own label, the jazz funk classic Alphonse Mouzon ‘Man Incognito’.

Lee Fields possesses a great gritty soulful voice which is perfectly suited to the dramatic 70’s soul style production of Jeff Silverman and Leon Michels. The Expressions provide a fantastic musical backdrop for Lee’s voice and also the instrumental ‘Intermission’. The mid tempo modern soul dancer  ‘You’re The Kind Of Girl’ , mid tempo ‘Who Do You Love’ and ‘Faithful Man’ are standouts, but also check the beat ballad ‘Wish You We’re Here’ and big ballads ‘I Still Got’, and ‘Walk out That Door’. Another great album from the vintage singer.
