Willie Hutch was one of Soul music’s greatest underground songwriters, composers, producers and singers. His musical genius was not rewarded with the commercial success that it deserved.  His name should be revered in the same way as his contemporaries Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway Leroy Hutson and Leon Ware. These albums illustrate Willie’s distinctive very rhythmic sound, with full on production featuring strings, horns, and Willie’s so soulful gritty voice. It was the sound of it’s time, the backdrop to Blaxploitation movies, the sound of the street.  It is no surprise that Willie composed the Soundtracks for two of the most popular Blaxploitation movies ‘The Mack’ and ‘Foxy Brown’.  The sound was made popular again in the late 80’s/early 90’s in the ‘Rare Groove’ scene in London and his music has sampled by numerous hip-hop acts.

We are very proud to make available on CD for the first time Willie Hutch’s first three (non soundtrack) albums. These albums are very special and have been remastered from the original tapes and sound incredibly fresh.

WILLIE HUTCH MARK OF THE BEAST CD 12.99
Mark of The Beast from 1974 is another great album that Willie Hutch recorded for Motown. The funky soul  of ‘get ready For The Get Down’ , ‘Mark Of The Beast’ and the fantastic ‘Life’s No Fun Living In The Ghetto’ perfectly illustrates Willie’s trademark  full production sound, and could easily have been taken from a Blaxploitation movie. The upper mid twmpo soul dancers ‘Try It You’ll Like it’ and ‘I’m Gonna Stay’ and the mid tempo ‘Woman I Still Got Loving on my Mind’ show the more soulful side of Willie Hutch. Another Brilliant album of classic 70’s Soul.
