New releases

Japanese Trumpeter Takuya Koruda impressed with his debut album a couple of years ago, he returns with an even stronger album ‘Zigzagger’ some great funky jazz which also features a D’Angelo influenced vocal cut. Joyce Moreno is one of Brazil’s leading singers, she has made a nice album of classic standards in her bossa style that is really ‘Cool’.

Reissues and compilations

Tony Monson unleashes another dose of Ethereal magic with the Vol 2 of the series.The second installment of Freestyle’s Brian Auger anthology is in on CD, it includes some real gems including his original version version of ‘Happiness is just around the bend’. Betty Harris is definitely the lost queen of New Orleans soul and Soul Jazz have made a lovely comp available on CD and Double vinyl. Derrick Harriott made some great reggae with a soul and funk influence check out his superb comp available on cd and vinyl. Sante Palumbo’s rare italian funky jazz album ‘Sway’ is now on CD.

45s galore!

There are loads of great 45’s this week including a new track from the reformed Coalitions on Soul Junction, Dexter Story ft Kamasi Washington , a great modern soul cut from Melvin Sparks and some really good Northern soul titles.
