New releases – 17th June 2016

Beverley Knight has recorded an album at Royal Studios Memphis that features many of the legendary Hi musicians and engineered by Willie Mitchell’s son Boo, it is a mixture of covers of soul classics and original material. Florian Pellissier quintet provide the backing to Shola Adisa Farrer’s album, and they make an album of their own which is yet another great Jazz album for 2016.

James Day features many great vocalists on his Repertoire album. There are also good jazz albums from Kim Waters and the Murray Allen and Carrington Power Band.

Numero strike gold again with the excellent Eccentric Soul – Sitting in the Park album , a fantastic compilation of Chicago Harmony Soul obscurities. Chris Sullivan has compiled a superb 4cd set featuring a variety of black music styles played at the legendary Wag Club in the 80’s.

There are two excellent value Box sets which feature between them all of Marvin Gaye’s Motown albums from 1966 to 1981.The second batch of the beautifully presented Universal/Elemental Mini LP sleeve re-mastered Cd’s include two classics from the Ohio Players, Undisputed Truth, Rare Earth and Barry White/Love Unlimited Orchestra soundtrack ‘Together Brothers’.

There are plenty of good Vinyl titles with reissues from Sly, Prince, Art Blakey and a John Coltrane Atlantic albums in mono 6LP set with a bonus 45. There’s some great 45’s with Eugene Record’s classic ‘Overdose of Joy’, Bobby Reed killer Modern soul Time is Right for love’ and for fathers day Zed Soul ft Noel McKoy and Najee ‘Papa you are my hero’.
