Mark Murphy The Jazz Singer – Anthology The Muse Years 1972-1991

Mark Murphy is the archetypal Jazz singer; the term vocaleese was almost invented for him. His clear diction, pure tone and jazzy delivery earmarked Murphy as a singer of rare talent and one of post Hard Bop’s true singing legends.  He combined style, incredible technique and a sense of humour. He displayed a level of improvisation and spontaneity that many contemporary Jazz Musicians would be proud to achieve. Mark was able to find and express the inner meaning of a song, spin it around and deliver it in a new and fresh way. He was always achingly hip, his incredible...

Lonnie and Roy will be performing at the Forum Kentish Town on Saturday 28th May for a night of classic Fusion.  As both are now 75, this may be the last chance to catch them together in London.  Those of a certain vintage may recall Lonnie and Roy being part of the first New...

Rising soulstar Charlene will be instore on Saturday 7th December meeting and greeting and signing copies of her strong new album . UK Soul Singer Charlene made her debut track ‘Second Nature’ a couple of years ago on the Soul Independence compilation. Now she has recorded her first album, the title track ‘Good Day’ and ‘Second Nature’ are produced by Ray Hayden and have that Opaz sound. The mid tempo ‘Intoxicated’ and the slower ‘It is the way’ and ‘Second Guessing’ are good Soul tracks whilst ‘Lost’ has a jazzier vibe. Good UK Soul album

Moon Base visit our store…

Thomas Motter and Melissa Bell from Moon Base who visited the store on Saturday 31st August. Really good soul album made by German keyboardist Thomas Motter, Moon Base features some great vocalists and musicians including Saxophonist Bill Evans. Helen Taylor features on the nice mid tempo ‘High’, Karl Frierson on the Bootsy influenced ‘Moon Cookies’, Helena Paul on the uptempo jazzier Jazz Music’ and Menoosha Susungi sings/speaks on ‘Do Me Like A lion’. The highlight though is Melissa Bell’s great soulful voice on the mid tempo ‘Watch Out’ and ‘You’. Refreshingly Soulful album.
