DARIEN IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK CD £14.95
Outstanding independent soul album from one of the best new vocalists. (you may have heard him on our This Is Soul 2006' or the recent Reel People album). Great songs with real melodies , good lyrics and distinctive soulful vocals, backed by good musicianship and production. The mid tempo dancers 'Where It's At' 'Just Cant Wait' and 'Love Revolution' will be very popular tracks, whilst the more uptempo 'Saturday' is more of a party song. The Stevie influenced melodic mid tempo's 'Composure', 'My Door' , 'Sail Thru' and 'All Kind Of Things' are a delight. 'The Road' 'Showya' and 'Nowhere' are also good mid tempo's and 'Seasons' is a nice ballad. Could well be one of the albums of 2009.

NORMAN CONNORS – STAR POWER CD £16.95
Legendary producer/ drummer Norman Connors returns with a nice selection of mainly covers. Highlights include a wonderful take of Sade's 'Sweetest Taboo' and the lovely ballad 'Where Do We Go From Here' both featuring Antoinette, the latter in duet with Howard Hewett. Antoinette is lady whose voice we should hear much more from.. Pleasing versions of 'Rock With You and Dionne Warwick's 'Walk On By' are good covers too. Peabo Bryson takes the lead vocal duties on a fine update of Norman's own 'You Are My Starship'. 'Stormin Norman' is a relaxed Smooth Jazz tune.

LISA SHAW – FREE CD £15.95
Lisa has built up a good reputation for up tempo soul and soulful house tracks over the past decade and this solid album can only enhance that. 'Honey' is a monster modern soul dancer that will set the floors alight, 'Free' is also a killer up tempo soulful dancer, and 'Feel' another good soulful dancer. 'I'am Okay' is a good mid tempo stepper and 'Sky High' and 'Better Days' are slightly slower mid tempo's. The rest of the album is mainly soulful house shifters the best of which are 'Like I Want To' , 'Can You See Him' , 'Find The Way' and 'All Night' . Nice album and definitely one for those who prefer their music with more tempo.

QUASIMODE – MODE OF BLUE CD £32.95
Brilliant interpretations of Blue Note classics recorded by the Japanese Jazz group. They manage to stamp their own personality on the pieces, whilst remaining true to the spirit of Blue Note. 'Afrodisia' is superbly close to Kenny Dorham's original, whilst 'Mode Of Blue' hits more of a Quasimode feel. Valerie Etienne adds a vocal to Bobby Hutcherson's 'Little B's Poem'. Donald Byrd's 'Ghana', Horace Silver's breezy 'Sayonara Blues', 'Congalere' ..Treat after treat after treat. Unmissable.
