MELINDA DOOLITTLE COMING BACK TO YOU CD £12.95
Former American idol contestant, diminutive but big voiced Melinda has one of those 'classic' soul voices and excels on her debut album, which features Betty Wright and while being contemporary is heavily influenced by the classic 60's and 70's southern/Florida soul sound. 'Fundamental Things' is a great upper mid tempo track, 'Declarations Of Love' is a stormer, and the excellent 'Coming Back To You' is a string laden mid tempo groover. 'Wonderful' the albums standout is a modern soul stepper, 'I'll Never Stop Loving You' a ballad with swirling strings' and the beat ballads 'It's Your Love', 'Best Of Everything' , 'If I'm Not In Love' and 'We Will Find A Way' are also strong. Really great voice and a nice album.

INDIA ARIE TESTIMONY VOL 2 LOVE AND POLITICS CD £13.95
Lyrically strong good acoustic soul album from Atlanta's premier singer songwriter. The catchy 'Chocolate High' ft Musiq Soulchild is a great radio friendly song; 'Ghetto' has a great riff that you can really get into.
'Pearls' has a slight African influence, 'Yellow' ft Terrell Carter is another catchy sing a long track, 'River Rise' is more melodic and 'Psalms23' has a fuller sound and a good hook line. The bonus tracks 'Beautiful Day' and the slower 'Beautiful Flower' are also good on this essentially listening album.

TRISH ANDREWS THESE FIVE WORDS CD £13.95
Quality sophisticated soul album with good production featuring mainly mid tempo songs from Chicago singer. 'Jumpin and Bumpin' is a nice upper mid tempo dancer, 'You Know What You Do To Me' is also fairly uptempo. But its on the mid tempo tracks that Trish really excels especially on 'Back To You', 'These Five Words', 'Can't Keep Running' and 'Comfort Zone'. The ballads 'Making Love' and 'On My Mind' are also really good. Good album throughout.

Follow-up to the classic 'Other Directions' takes a more vocal route. The style (though not the vocal) resembles Mario Biondi's wonderful 'Handful Of Soul' from a couple years back especially on Ellington's 'Caravan' and the Eastern vibe of 'The Nubian Queens', the latter featuring Jose James. 'I See All Shades Of You' features the delectable Jazz vocals of Alice Ricciardi on a swinging groove that is on the one as they say. She also contributes on the waltz 'Song For The Seasons'. The instrumental 'Macedonia' is a jazzy instrumental piece of some gusto. For Jazz dance aficionados this is a must buy and already a contender for Jazz album of 2009.
