Angie Stone’s latest release is a change of musical direction. Angie takes a more contemporary route. There are several fine tracks including the mid-tempo head nodder ‘I Don’t Care’, , the single ‘I Ain’t Hearin U’ and the slower ‘Think Sometimes’. Also ‘Maybe’ has a lush mellow Soul sound.

WILLIE CLAYTON – LOVE ROMANCE AND RESPECT CD £14.95
Willie is back to form with this nice album his best for a while. 'Dance The Nite Away' is a good 'Stepper' dancer, and 'My Everything' a really nice shuffling mid tempo that oozes soulfulness. The swinging up tempo 'Some Kind Of Wonderful' and the mid tempo plodder 'I Need To Know' keep the tempo going. The ballads 'The Best Years Of My Life' and 'Put It On Me' and the beat ballad 'We Both Grown' ft Dave Hollister show of Willie's soulful voice. Consistantly good new soul album.

MARC STAGGERS – THEN AND NOW CD £11.95
Marc has one of those classic 80's soul voices with shades of Luther Vandross or Will Downing. This album allows his voice to shine through in a variety of styles. The mid tempo dancer 'All My Lovin' and slightly faster 'Can't Get Enough of This Groove' will keep the feet shuffling. The mid tempo 'Just You And Me' and 'L.O.V.E and the ballads 'He Can Never Love You' 'Lies' and When I Think About Your Love' are also good. Quality smooth soul.

NEW MASTERSOUNDS – TEN YEARS ON CD £13.95/ LP £13.95
The New Mastersounds release their ninth album to celebrate ten years as a recording artist. The mix of Funk and Jazz is as potent as ever with Eddie Roberts' eloquent guitar taking the lead on many of the tracks. From the JB influenced groove of 'San Frantico' to the jazzy tones of 'The Road To Fuji Rock'. The groove really moves on the cooking 'Cielo'. The Meters influenced 'MRG' is a great vehicle for Roberts' bluesy lead guitar and features great organ work from Joe Tatton. The brooding 'Ooom' and the upbeat 'Make Me Proud' offer contrasting backdrops for Roberts' Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones like guitar and fine Hammond work again. There is a definite late 60's vibe to the music and feel.

SOULIVE – UP HERE CD £13.95
Popular band on the college circuit in the USA, Soulive bring their tight grooves into sharp focus. Check the JB influenced title song or the vocal 'Too Much', the latter having a funk Southern Soul feel to it (a la Stax). 'PJs' has a late 60's James Brown (a la There Was A Time) feel. 'For Granted' has the feel of a Grant Green Blue Note Hammond track. The boys are back; this set will appeal to those that loved their early albums for Blue Note and before.
