'King' Anthony has firmly established himself as the leading male soul singer of his generation, following in the footsteps of Otis, Marvin and Luther etc from earlier decades. Anthony's deep southern soul voice oozes emotion and soulfulness throughout this excellent mainly down tempo album. 'The News' is a very 70's Marvin/Willie Hutch style social commentary track with a good groove. The piano backed headnodder 'The Day We Met' has some punchy horn riffs, the catchy 'Fallin in Love' and faster 'Praying For You' have a 60's soul influence. Anthony really excels on the ballads and the beautiful horn backed 'Please Stay', 'Hard To Breathe' 'Diamond In The Rough' and 'Point Of It All' will delight. The mid tempo 'Soul's On Fire' and 'Fine Again' are also good, and the bonus track 'Can You feel Me' is a quality mid tempo ballad. This is Soul music at its best 2008/9 style. Follow-up to the excellent Morning Light, is if anything stronger. The album has an Incognito feel especially with Tony Momrelle adding his Stevie tinged vocal on 'Brighter Days'. Joy Rose adds her vocals on the upbeat title song.. The excellent groove laden 'Feeling' features Eric Roberson as does 'Game' a fast dancer that zips along. The head nodder 'Set You Free' features Donna Gardier, whilst Marcina Arnold takes over on the breezy Jazz groove of 'Joy Of Life'. This superb album will appeal to lovers of the UK jazzy Soul of Incognito/ Brand New Heavies etc.

KIM ARRINGTON FIRST LOVE NOTE OF KIM ARRINGTON CD £13.95
Very good lyrically strong independent soul album featuring real instruments in a Jill Scott/Kendra Ross style, from North Carolina's singer songwriter Kim, who possesses a really strong unique voice. The mid tempo grooves 'Love From Your Clothesline', 'All Said And Done' 'Washburn' and 'Hurry On Silly Boy' are really strong featuring some great keyboard textures. The lilting 'Heat From Another' and 'Bargaining' and melancholy 'Front Door' and 'Wake Up' are also good. 'Sight Unseen' has a fuller sound and the more up-tempo percussive 'White Dress' will get your feet moving. Really nice album.

Darrius Willrich has one of those melodic soulful voices which could be compared to Dwele in places, which he uses to good effect on his best album to date. The standout is the melodic mid tempo stepper 'Hold On To You' ft Donyea a quality track. The Organic style foot tapers 'All I Want', 'Can't Get Enough' and 'Why Fight' the head nodding dancers 'Get it On' , 'Desire' Wild in Me' and organic dancer 'Promise me Love' are also very good. The ballads 'Back To You', 'All The Way Slow' and 'Where We Are' illustrate his soulful voice perfectly. Strong album throughout.

Good Neo soul album from singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist E-Bland. The outstanding catchy upper mid tempo 'Necessary' could easily have been taken from Heston's recent album. 'Talk To me' , 'Wash That Mirror', 'Sugar High' (ft Wayna) and 'Sneak Tip' are head nodders with good grooves and reminiscent of the kind of mid tempo grooves the Ohio Players made in the 70's. 'Funk That' with its walking bass line and 'Westside Willie' are funkier grooves and the ballad 'Right On Time' is also good on this refreshingly different album.

The slightly slower 'Close Top Your Love' ,'Set You Free' 'True Love in Motion' and 'Golden Girl' and the ballads 'Gotta Be', 'I Still Get Butterflies' and 'Make This Moment Last' are also good. This is feel good soul music 2009 style.

Old School Soul album includes the killer track 'Choose Your Destiny' that could become one of those 'Anthems', an uplifting upper mid tempo dancer that really grooves along with a great hook. 'Whole Lotta You in me' is another good dancer and 'Stop The Violence' (Dirty South Remix) will also work on the dancefloor. 'Girls' and 'My lovey Dovey' are mid tempo dancers, 'Whats Goin On' (not the marvin classic) a mid tempo social commentary track, whilst 'Mountain Of love', 'We've got Love', 'Come To Me' and 'Not ready For Love' are good ballads. Strong album for traditional soul fans.

Quality smooth soul album in a Phyllis Hyman/Patti Austin classic style from a vocalist who has opened for Luther and The Whispers amongst others. 'Roux's Fantasy' is a slow sax backed track that just oozes soulfulness. 'Back N Forth' is a nice mid tempo stepper that will appeal to the modern crowd, and 'Forgiveness' and 'Thinkin' are good mid tempo tracks. 'Destiny' , 'Speak To My Heart' and 'Guilty Pleasures' and the duet 'Maybe' aregood ballads, and the jazzy soul cover of 'Shadow Of Your Smile' puts a different tip to that classic. Quality soul that will appeal to those who liked Tracey Harris or Lyn Fiddmont.

Erik vocally sounds a little like Omar although his music is a mixture of Spacey soul and broken beat. The multi layered 'Children Of The Light' has a great groove and like most of the album is very hypnotic. The acoustic guitar backed 'Lets Lay Together' has a bossa-ish groove and is captivating. 'Peace Of Mind' has nice keyboards and melodies whilst the laid back mid tempo 'Making Love' shows a Stevie influence. 'Forever' has heavy back beats and keyboards, 'Wonderful' and 'So Much Greater' are more uptempo broken beaters. Interesting progressive album.
