TRIBE – REBIRTH CD £14.95 (very ltd) DBL LP £19.95
Brilliant and accessible reunion from the spiritual jazz tribe label guys Wendell Harrison, Phil Ranelin and Marcus Belgrave. 'Ride' is a great funky jazz, 'Living In a new Day', 'Glue Finger' and their version of 'Vibes from The Tribe' are very compelling. Many of the cuts are slow brooding jazz Funk grooves like the update of 'Vibes From The Tribe' and the heavier spacey 'Son Of Tribe' (ala Eddie Henderson). Check the groove driven 'Jazz On The Run' with its flowing bass and fender lines. The last track 'Where Am I' has a serene beauty carried by the understated grooves and solos and topped by a sublime female vocal. Whilst rooted in the Spiritual side of Jazz, this set will appeal also to lovers of Jazz Funk.
Great Spiritual Jazz.

DEEP JAZZ – HEAVEN AND EARTH CD £13.95/ LP £13.95
Excellent Jazz album from Germany, part vocal but mainly instrumental, the album is reminiscent of mid 60’s Blue Note. Even the sleeve is similar to a Reid Miles design. Includes a superb version of Coltrane’s ‘Naima’ and the ‘Maiden Voyage’ inspired ‘Orange Flower’ whose flute lead gives the piece its atmospheric feel. ‘Black Tiger’ is a fine waltz paced vocal, and try also the title song, which mixes that Blue Note sound with a Dee Dee Bridgewater like vocal. ‘Red Smoke’ is a heavier Jazz piece.

PHIL RANELIN – REMINISCIENCE LIVE CD £14.95
Phil Ranelin (Tribe) recorded these 8 tracks 'live' between 2002 and 2005. They are the modern day equivalent of the classic Tribe label from the 70's. The album consists of 3 covers and 5 originals. Deep Jazz grooves like 'Think On A Groove' and 'Shades Of Dolphy' mix great versions of Miles' 'Solar', the standard 'Nature Boy' and a wonderful led version of Ellington's 'Caravan'.

JOSE JAMES – BLACK MAGIC CD £11.95
Second album from the Outstanding Jose, whose brilliantly expressive voice has graced recent releases from Nicola Cone and Timo Lassy. 'Black Magic' takes a couple of plays to really appreciate and is more soul oriented than his debut. 'Promise In Love' and 'Greater Good' are nice soulful mid tempo 's with horn backing, 'Lay You Down' has a D'Angelo feel to it, and 'Save Your Love For Me' is a nice beat ballad. The more acoustic jazzier 'Touch' has great keyboards and 'Warrior' is heavier jazz. Strong album
also recommended 'The Dreamer' CD £11.95
