The Boppers had a very unique style with good harmonies over jazzy backgrounds with strong production (At home productions) and tight instrumentation 'You Did It Good' is a standout 2 stepper, 'Watching Life' , 'Be-Bop Dancing' and 'Is This The Best' were popular tracks at the time and 'Saturday' is an in demand dancer. Excellent 1981 soul album from Aretha's long time backing singer, produced by Tony Camillo. Includes the mid tempo beat ballad hit 'Tell Em That I Heard It' and other great ballads like 'Leaving This Time', 'Here Now' and 'You Won My Heart'. The standouts are the brassy orchestrated punchy dancer 'Betcha', and the string laden modern soul dancer 'Just To Be Close To You', and the mid tempo 'Fade Away'. There's also a good uptempo version of Johnnie Taylor's 'Whos Making Love'. Bonus tracks incl the uptempo 'If You Want It You Got It', 'Butterfly' and the country soul 'Chokin Kind' . Really good reissue.

Willie's debut album for RCA from 1969 gives us the embryo of his distinctive style of songwriting, singing and production that was to really blossom in the 70's at Motown. 'Ain't Gonna Stop' is a brassy upper mid tempo track that sounds from a much later period, 'You Gotta Try' is very uplifting, and the ballad 'That's What I Call Love' is also good. The album is best known for the classic Northern Soul floater 'Lucky To Be Loved By You' a brilliant track, 'Do What You Wanna Do' has a driving beat and the mid tempo 'You Keep Lifting Me Higher' is also good.

This excellent Europena Jazz collection delves into the musical vaults of producer Antoliano Toldes and covers the period 1967 to 1972. 13 tracks includes the wicked 'Opaco' by Quniteto Montelirio with its driving bassline and similarly flavoured 'Modulo Jazz' from Toldos Y Su Grupo. Conjunto Estif contribute the 60's sounding swinger 'Tom Jazz' and the modal 'Trompeta Loca – hints of Freddie Hubbard. Conjunto Segali take a smoother route with 'Jazz Progresivo'. Interesting, intriguing and inventive set of fine Jazz grooves.

Fourth volume in this excellent series continues the journey through a broad spectrum of music that 'Jazz dance' encompasses. Love the modal waltz 'Dancer' by Gregory Charles Royal or the multi-paced Latin romp 'Schizophrenia' by Cirius B. Lovers of 70's Jazz Funk should appreciate LaMont Johnson's 'Benign Beginning' and Motivators' 'Jobu' is Disco Jazz of the highest quality – check the b line. Lillian Alexander's 'A Dream Without You' hits a soulful Jazz groove with female vocal and catchy hook. Teo'Dore will appeal to (modern) Soul lovers. Najite Olokun Pro 'Honesty' is a wonderful atmospheric African tinged groover. A fine compilation.

From 1978, this album features the all-time Jazz Funk classic 'Sweet Tears', the second version of the song with a groove that is so compelling and irresistible. 'Freaky Deaky' is a P Funk tinged cut, whilst the repetitive 'When Is Real Real' has a typical Ayers sound to it. 'Kiss', 'Let's Do It' and 'You Came Into My Life' have that Soul/Jazz vibe – slightly quirky and off-key for which Roy's late 70's work was renowned. Fine album.

From 1973, at this time Roy could do no wrong. From '72 to '80 just about every album was either 'on it' or had a classic or several on it. Grooves like the compulsive 'Brother Louie' and the instrumental belter 'Des Nudes Soul' are funky and Fusion of the highest quality. The uptempo take on 'Love From The Sun' features Dee Dee Bridgewater on vocals. 'Virgo Red' and the 2 Step paced 'Giving Love' (Leroy Hutson penned/Voices of East Harlem track) add variety to an ultra strong Roy Ayers album.
