VARIOUS ARTISTS CAROLINA FUNK CD £13.95 DBL LP £16.95
More heavy driving Funk from the Jazzman label, 'Carolina Funk' continues this superb series where Florida Funk and Midwest Funk left off, albeit heavier and stronger. There are 22 cuts including three unreleased gems. If you like James Brown style Funk this comp is for you. Tracks like The Soul Drifters 'Funky Soul Brother' and Dynamite Singletary 'Supergood' testify to the JB feel. Also try the in-demand 'Can We Rap' from Carleen and The Groovers and the lowdown sister Funk of Sundia's 'Stand Up And Be A Man'. Deep, obscure Funk that deserves wider appreciation; the production is raw but compliments the grooves perfectly. Those who love fluid basslines, blazing horns and tough drums need look no further.
